Youth Mental Health First Aid training is for adults who work with youth ages 12-18. In the morning, we focus on typical adolescent development, the signs and symptoms of mental health concerns in youth and an acronym for addressing concerns. In the afternoon, we will discuss how to handle crisis situations, including suicide, self-harm, and psychosis. The course is interactive and works on developing the basic skills necessary to respond to an immediate situation and when and how to get appropriate help. At the end of this program, participants will have a certification valid for 3 years.

Instructor: Angela Patchen is a Licenses Independent Social Worker and Ohio Certified Prevention Consultant working as the Prevention Program Manager at the Wood County Educational Service Center. In her 10 years at the ESC, she has focused on mental health and suicide prevention, as well as the prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use in schools. She has a background in mental health and child development. In her spare time, she enjoys dog training, nature, and stand-up comedy.

This workshop is complimentary from the Wood County Educational Service Center. An optional lunch will be provided for $15.00.
